Just reminding everyone that Sally (9) and Schroeder (10) are still available for the right adopter. They've been with us since 7/12/08, owner surrender.
Pros: Absolutely some of the sweetest seniors.
Fairly well behaved as long as the food is out of Schroeder's reach.
Not couch dogs, these two are always on the move, great for active households.
We've taught Schroeder hand signals for commands in addition to verbal commands.
Are used to children, not under about 5 though. Sally LOVES little girls, Schroeder loves everyone.
Great with cats as long as they don't step on Sally's head, we have 7 here so that should give you an idea of how well they get along.
Have been treated for heartworms and survived.
Cons: Sally is blind, but she's well adjusted, just doesn't like being alone. So she doesn't know the hand signals
Schroeder, for lack of a better term, is a food whore. If it's edible and he can get to it, it will be gone. 5 lb sack of potatoes, bag of flour, chocolate, bread (bags and all), frozen cauliflower is his favorite, oatmeal..... he's not picky, hasn't met a food he won't eat yet.
Schroeder has seborhea, needs weekly baths.
He also has entropion and we are thinking he's due for a touch up, but nothing major.
Both need regular teeth cleanings, as in at the very least once a year.
Schroeder has a bit of impulse control problem, we've been working on this and he's far better, he just still barrels through everyone to get where he's going. You have to be firm with him no matter how much of a wuss he acts.
The right adopter will have to accept all this! And yes I'm going to be picky about who they go to!! Must be in a home without territorial or otherwise overly aggressive dog(s). Been there and I will NOT let them go through that again. For those who don't know, they were adopted and came back due to this issue, Sally can't take it and I refuse to put her through that again.
They are safe here for as long as we can afford to take care of them but with so many here that have medical issues we feel we are cheating them out of the attention they deserve.
If you know of anyone who'd fit the bill, let me know
